  • Made in Japan
  • Vintage: 1986
  • Details:  This is a souvenir plate from the state of Vermont, well known for all their covered bridges. We're unsure but we believe this illustration looks a lot like The Creamery Covered Bridge, or the Henry Bridge, hopefully someone from Vermont can set us straight.  The plate is stamped on the back SCIO Japan, that's the SCIO Pottery Company in Ohio, (1932 - 1985). This plate is from their "White Swirl" pattern, the lovely decal of the covered bridge is by Green Mountain Studios of NH, (that's the GMS on the front).  A very nostalgic plate for someone who lived in Vermont, or traveled there.  Perfect for a covered bridge admirer or collector.  We carry several other plates, if you would like 3 or more Decorative Plates (mix and match from our entire Decorative Plates section), please Contact Us for 20% off, don't forget to let us know which 3 plates you would like.

The SCIO Pottery Company was founded in 1933 by Lewis P. Reese (1893-1952), in Scio, Ohio.  Mr. Reese felt that everyone should have affordable dinnerware.  They made many lovely patterns like the well known Blue Willow, Blue Onion and a very popular Brown Drip Glazed Ironstone called Casual Brown, among others.  They also made mugs for Campbell's Soup, Maxwell House coffee, the USPS, a sweet series of children's mugs, and lots more.  Unfortunately they could not sustain the business due to strong competition from Asia and they stopped making pottery in 1985.  We realize this plate is dated 1986, we believe GMS purchased a large stock of these plates before SCIO closed, and 1986 is the year of the covered bridge decal.  SCIO is still in business, however, they now deal in cement.
